Amneh Amro ’22 DMSc

Amneh Amro ’22 DMSc, a PA from Austin, Texas, spent some time at the University of Lynchburg’s Claytor Nature Center in the spring of 2022 learning how to use her PA skills in wilderness emergency situations.

The class, Wilderness Survival Medicine, was part of Emergency and Disaster Management, one of eight certificates offered by Lynchburg’s Doctor of Medical Science program. Amro has also completed Global Health, another DMSc certificate.

Amro described Wilderness Survival Medicine as “the great intensive” and a “unique experience.” She also admitted that she and the 30-some other PAs in her class were a little reluctant to attend at first. After all, the class was taught by Dr. Greg Davenport, a former Air Force medic and a Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape, or SERE, specialist.

“After being there, we were all happy that we made it out,” she said. “It forced us to get away from our routine. It forced us to create bonds that we didn’t know we really needed, and that we will forever carry with us, through our careers, into our lives, and to our futures.”
