Addiction Medicine Concentration

The University of Lynchburg Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) Addiction Medicine Concentration is designed to enroll PAs looking to expand their practice of medicine, leadership, and management skills in the specialty of addiction medicine and/or primary care.

The curriculum focuses on neurobiology, neurochemistry, pharmacology, nonpharmacologic interventions, and social aspects of chemical and behavioral addictions, their contributing factors, and the future direction of addiction medicine. Students will further develop critical thinking and clinical skills involving diversity and inclusion in professional practice.

The track is equipped to challenge students working in the addiction field and those who are not by providing individualized levels of study. This track will prepare PAs to work in Addiction Medicine in executive level and clinical positions and be advocates for addiction issues and policy.

Behavioral Medicine Concentration

The University of Lynchburg Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) Behavioral Medicine concentration is designed to enroll PAs looking to expand their practice of medicine, leadership, and management skills in the specialty of behavioral medicine and/or primary care.

The curriculum focuses on neurobiology, neurochemistry, pharmacology, nonpharmacologic interventions, and psychosocial aspects of mental health and addiction disorders, their contributing factors, and the future direction of behavioral medicine. Students will further develop critical thinking and clinical skills, involving diversity and inclusion in professional practice.

The track is equipped to challenge students working in the psychiatry field and those who are not by providing individualized levels of study. This track will prepare PAs for the Psychiatry CAQ, work in Behavioral Medicine in executive level and clinical positions, and leadership in behavioral medicine.

Administrative Medicine Concentration

Increasing numbers of PAs are entering the field of administrative medicine, often in a dual role of clinician/administrator. Many PAs either 1) desire to enter, or 2) who are currently in this field find themselves desiring additional education in leadership, administration, management, law, business, and informatics.

The University of Lynchburg’s DMSc Administrative Medicine (AM) Concentration is designed to give PAs the skills needed to excel in the field of administrative medicine. The curriculum aligns with the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) competencies including leadership, communication and relationship management, professional and social responsibility, health and the healthcare environment, and business.
