The Master of Education in Higher Education Leadership is designed for those who aspire to lead at post-secondary institutions. Our program is designed to prepare you for administrative roles in those settings and provides a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on leadership philosophy, management, and policy in higher education.

What makes the Master of Education in Higher Education Leadership program at the University of Lynchburg unique?

In addition to the core curriculum, you can choose to specialize in one of the following emphases:

  • General Higher Education Leadership: Equips you with a broad understanding of higher education administration and management skills to lead in higher education and navigate its unique challenges.
  • Disability Studies: Prepares you to be a strong voice in disability advocacy and inclusion in post-secondary education, with courses on policy, strategic development, and leadership.
  • Sport Management: Provides you with a specialized understanding of athletic programs at post-secondary institutions, with targeted instruction in management, sociology of the sports industry, marketing, and legal matters — all to develop the skills needed to lead successful athletic programs.
  • Student Services: Builds your foundational knowledge around the challenges and opportunities inherent to student affairs and services at post-secondary institutions, focusing on student development, human resource supervision, and management to position you as a leader of successful student services programs.

The higher education program helped me immensely in developing my leadership style and preparing me for my work in higher education. The program shaped how I carry myself, interact with my colleagues and how I lead student groups. All of the professors were beyond helpful and truly devoted to developing me as a leader.
